❓ How do you switch from another collecting society to Soundreef?

Updated today

🟦 Introduction

Switching to Soundreef is a simple and structured process:

  1. Request the Mandate Withdrawal or Opt-out from your current collecting society.

  2. Sign up to Soundreef and verify your account.

  3. Once the withdrawal/opt-out is effective - and your Soundreef account is active, start registering your Musical Works.

📤 Communicate the Mandate Withdrawal/Opt-out

🔹 Do you want to completely unsubscribe from your current collecting society?
Proceed with the withdrawal, following the procedures and timelines. Each society has its own rules, usually indicated in the Membership Agreement or on the website.

🔹 Do you want to retain part of the mandate with your current collecting society and manage only certain rights and/or territories with Soundreef?
In this case, request an Opt-Out.
📌 Your Soundreef mandate will be active only for the rights/territories you have effectively revoked from the previous collecting society.

🆕 Sign up to Soundreef: verify and activate your account

Once the withdrawal or opt-out is requested and confirmed, you can:

✔ sign up to Soundreef
✔ activate your account, once the withdrawal/opt-out is effective

✔ register all your historical Musical Works, and new ones.

⏱ How long does the transition take?

The timelines vary depending on your current collecting society.

📌 For example, for SIAE you can submit the withdrawal or opt-out request by August 31st, to make it effective from January 1st of the following year.

❓ FAQ

🔹 Can I transfer only part of my repertoire to Soundreef?
No. European collecting societies require that the opt-out applies to entire classes of rights and/or territories, not to individual works.

🔹 Who manages my rights during the period between withdrawal and activation of my Soundreef profile?
Your current collecting society will continue to manage the rights until the expiration of its mandate. 👉 Example: SIAE will continue to do so until December 31.

🔹 Can I already create a Soundreef account after requesting the withdrawal/opt-out?
Yes. You can create your Soundreef account, but it will be active - following verification - only once the withdrawal/opt-out is effective.

🔹 Is the transfer of my Works automatic?
No. You will need to register all your Musical Works in your new Soundreef account.

👉 Note: if you have more than 400 Works, contact Soundreef support via Messenger on the website or in account, to manage the massive transfer of your repertoire.

✅ Conclusion

To switch to Soundreef, you must first terminate (totally or partially) the mandate in your current collecting society. Only once the termination is effective, can you activate your Soundreef Membership and register your repertoire. The process is simple: just follow the timelines and procedures.
