❓ Is it possible to register songs with co-authors/publishers affiliated with other collecting societies? How does it work?

Updated over a week ago

📌 Introduction

If your song is composed and published with co-authors/publishers registered with another collecting society, you can still register it with Soundreef by following a few simple steps.

📌 Important note: each rights holder must register the song with their own management society, ensuring consistency and correspondence of the distribution schemes indicated.

1️⃣ How to add non-Soundreef co-authors/publishers to the registration?

During the registration, in the "Rights Holders" section:

✔ If the co-author/publisher is already registered with Soundreef, you will find them in the automatic search.
✔ If you don't find them, select "Didn't find who you were looking for?" and manually enter:

  • Role (author or publisher initially)

  • First and last name (or Company name, if publisher)

  • IPI Code (if available, recommended)

💡 Note: Your co-author/publisher will need to do the same with their respective collecting society, mentioning you in their registration.

2️⃣ Document signing: who signs what?

🔹 You and other Soundreef members sign the List of Works generated in Soundreef.
🔹 Non-Soundreef co-authors/publishers do NOT need to sign your List of Works, but will sign the document of their collecting society.

📌 Attention: Registration with Soundreef does not automatically notify other collecting societies, and vice versa. Each must manage their own registration.

3️⃣ Mandate Opt-Out: do I need to register with multiple collecting societies?

✔ If you manage all your rights with Soundreef: register only with Soundreef.
✔ If you have a mandate opt-out (e.g., some rights and/or territories with another collecting society): register with both Soundreef and the collecting society holding your remaining mandate.

💡 Tip: Ensure that the chain of ownership matches across all involved collecting societies to avoid conflicts.

5️⃣ They can't find my IPI code in another collecting society's registration: what does it mean?

If your co-authors/publishers can't find your IPI code, it might not have been generated yet, or the international database may not be updated (in cases where the code was generated very recently).

✔ The IPI code is automatically assigned after your first registration with Soundreef.
✔ Activation can take up to 5 weeks.

If your co-authors/publishers still can't find you, contact Soundreef support via Messenger on the website or in your account.

📌 FAQ

🔹 Does Soundreef automatically notify other collecting societies about the registration?
No, each collecting society manages registrations independently.

🔹 Is it mandatory to indicate the IPI code of co-authors/publishers?
No, but it is recommended for correct identification.

🔹 I have a mandate opt-out, what should I do/where should I register?
You must register with both collecting societies - remembering to indicate the same chain of ownership to avoid management conflicts.

🔹 Does Soundreef resolve disputes over percentage rights shares?
No, rights holders must agree among themselves; it is a private negotiation in which the collecting society does not interfere.

📌 Conclusion

All rights holders must register the song with their own collecting society.
The chain of ownership must match among the involved collecting societies to avoid management conflicts.
Signing the List of Works is required only for Soundreef members.
If you have a mandate opt-out, you must register the song with both collecting societies.
