❓ How to Verify a Radio/TV Broadcast?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

📌 Introduction

Soundreef Radio/TV Monitoring is an additional tool to track your music's airplay on radio and television stations. Monitored airplays are cross-matched with the official reports from the broadcasters.

If an airplay does not appear in the Monitoring section, this does not mean it will not be reported. Below, we also explain the most common reasons why an airplay might not be visible and what to do in these cases.

1️⃣ 📲 Radio/TV Monitoring is a support tool

The airplays detected by Soundreef Monitoring are only a part of the total royalty count.
The absence of an airplay in the Monitoring tab does not affect your royalty reporting.

Here are some situations where an airplay might not be detected by our Monitoring system:

  • The volume of the voiceover or speech was too high compared to the background music in a TV program.

  • The radio airplay was too short to be recognized by our systems.

  • The audio of the track used was altered compared to the deposited version.

📌 Even if the airplay does not appear in Monitoring, it will still be detected in the official reports from the broadcasters and reported in due time.

2️⃣ 📁 Did you upload the MP3 file of the track during the registration?

The MP3 file is a fundamental element for Radio/TV Monitoring. If the track was not registered with an audio file, the system will not be able to recognize it during automatic detection.
If you uploaded the MP3 late, the airplay might have been broadcast before the track was actually monitorable.

📌 Always ensure to upload the MP3 file of your track at the time of registration to allow for proper detection.

3️⃣ What to do if you want to verify a Radio/TV airplay?

Before contacting Soundreef support, check these points:

  • Check the Monitoring section 📲 by filtering for Radio or TV, and selecting the correct time period.

  • Verify since when your track has been on air.

If you have official feedback (documentation with verified and certified data), you can report it to us for a technical check.

  • Indicate whether the broadcaster is local or national.

  • If it is a TV airplay for audiovisual (film, documentary, TV series), attach the show's cue sheet, if available.

📌 Note: An airplay not detected in Monitoring does not mean it will not be reported. If your track was indeed used, it will appear in the official reports from the broadcasters and will be reported in due time.

❓ FAQ

🔹 Why wasn't my track detected in monitoring?
There can be various reasons: modified audio, airplay too short, speech volume higher than the music. In any case, the track's airplay will be detected in the official reports from radio/TV broadcasters, if actually broadcast.

🔹 What can I do if I know of an airplay but it doesn't appear in my account?
Check the Monitoring section with the correct filters. If you don't detect it, and you have details/documentation supporting the airplay in question (cue sheet, screenshot, verified data), contact us via Messenger for a more in-depth check.

🔹 Is it necessary to have uploaded the MP3 to be monitored?
Yes. The MP3 file is essential for the automatic recognition of the track by the monitoring system.

🔹 Does the lack of detection in monitoring affect payment?
No. The final reporting is still based on the reports from radio/TV broadcasters, compared and possibly integrated with the monitoring data.

📌 Conclusion

The Radio/TV Monitoring is a support tool to verify the use of your music, but it is not the only tool for calculating royalties. If an airplay does not appear in Monitoring, it will still be reported, being detected within the reports from radio/TV broadcasters.

If you need further info regarding a report, make sure to provide all necessary details and always check the Monitoring section before contacting support via Messenger on the site or in your account.
