Switching to Soundreef is a simple and structured process:

• request a mandate withdrawal/opt-out from your current collecting society
• and once it’s effective, sign up for Soundreef.

Notify your mandate withdrawal/opt-out

Do you want to completely unsubscribe from your current collecting society? Proceed with the mandate withdrawal, following the corresponding procedures and timings. Each society has its own process, usually outlined in the Membership Agreement or on their website.

Do you want to maintain part of your mandate with your current collecting society and manage only certain rights/territories with Soundreef? Request an opt-out (a partial withdrawal). And remember: your Soundreef mandate will only be active for the rights revoked from your previous collecting society.

Sign up for Soundreef and transfer your Works

Once your withdrawal/opt-out is confirmed and effective, you can proceed with signing up for Soundreef and register all the musical Works for which you hold rights.

How long does it take to switch to Soundreef?

The timings of the withdrawal/opt-out procedure depend on your current collecting society. Each society has its own process, usually outlined in the Membership Agreement or on their website.

FAQ/Clarifications

Can I transfer only part of my repertoire to Soundreef?

Currently, European collecting societies require that mandate opt-outs be submitted by right categories and/or territories, not for individual musical Works. Therefore, the opt-out applies to your entire musical Repertoire.

Who manages my rights between the withdrawal/opt-out and my registration with Soundreef?

Your current collecting society will continue to manage your rights until the expiration of its mandate. 

Can I create a Soundreef account once I have submitted my withdrawal/opt-out to my society?

You need to wait until the mandate termination or opt-out is effective. For example, if your collecting society manages your rights until December 31, you can create your Soundreef profile and deposit your Works starting from January 1.

Is the transfer of my musical Works automatic?

No, the transfer is not automatic. Once you’ve created your Soundreef profile, make sure to register all your musical works.
